Using your iPhone for Playback

Sometimes, you may need to hook up an iPhone to play some music over a PA system. Or you are setting up a DJ that uses an iPad to play music and needs to connect it to the mixing board (or DJ board). Here are a few Solutions and Tips that can help make these types of connections easier.

iPhone Dongles – The iPhone dongle (shown above) allows iPhone owners to use a 3.5mm (1/8″) headphone plug (cable) with the Lightning port on the iPhone. Apple doesn’t include the dongle with newly-purchased iPhones. The type of dongle shown above can cost anywhere from $6 – $25 each.

Bluetooth Devices (pictured below)

If you want to skip the cables and try Bluetooth, there are plenty of devices to choose from. Switchcraft has a single unit 318BT and a Stereo unit 318BTS which are great options. The 318BTS Stereo Bluetooth Audio receiver has Phantom Power and two each 3-pin XLR Outputs to your Mixing Board (shown far right).
